Each month Scrapbooker’s Club House will Spotlight one of our awesome Design Team Members. They will share a bit about how they started this wonderful hobby we call scrapbooking and share their favorite techniques! Enjoy!

Our SBCH Spotlight – Design Team Member – Ali!

How did you begin scrappin’? I began scrapbooking in 2002 when I took my one and only scapbooking class. I’d been scrapping, self-taught, for months without even a trimmer, using scissors for all of that tedious cutting…but let me tell you, it wasn’t long before I had a 12″ trimmer of my very own! That was it, no more excuses!! With 4 children, it was time to make sure that all the memories, not just holidays and birthdays, were documented and saved, to be enjoyed over and over. The acidic photo albums housing our many photos up to that point had to “go”… a project I am STILL working on. Slowly the photos are being used on layouts or housed in acid free photo boxes. I know I’ll never be “caught up, ” but that’s OK. I’m an organizer-extraordinaire and yet my desk and tables prove that I am the MESSIEST scrapbooker, ever! (LOL!)

Whom do you admire in the scrappin’ world? I admire Ali Edwards because she is so “REAL.” Love her graphic, clean style and the honest voice with which she “speaks” on her pages. Her most recent book was amazing, so full of inspiration! Ali E has a son with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as do I. I can relate to Ali E easily; I “get her.” I feel like I could sit down and chat with her anytime. She makes me want to “tell my story.” I have stories busting out all over: scrapbooking and writing create a rich blend, like coffee. It’s best when shared!

Favourite scrappy techniques: My favourite scrappy techniques are designing buttons clusters, appliquéing fabric trimmed from vintage clothing, plus inking and sanding. I also love to “sew on paper.” All that texture looks and feels incredible! Doodling has become a new passion & I highly recommend the Uniball Signo gel pen in white for that. Right now I’m into scalloped edges, usually hand-trimmed for my layouts using a traced template. My favourite paper lines are Basic Grey & 3 Bugs in a Rug, but exploring & creating with the products in the fab monthly kits from SBCH has allowed me to learn and helped me stretch my creativity. What else could a learning-junkie ask for? I love each moment of this (messy) creative process, and feel honoured to be a part of the SBCH Design Team.

International Women’s Day!!

Ladies, mark your calendars..to celebrate International Women’s Day, Scrapbooker’s Club House is going to have a week long contest with project challenges that are related to “Women”.  You will have an entire week to finish beginning March 1 and ending on International Women’s Day March 8!   Full details will be posted on the SBCH forum and our Blog on March 1.   You will not want to miss this!!!

Our Guest Designer for February – JJ Sobey!!

Hi, my name is JJ, and I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For those who didn’t do any better in geography than I did in school, I’m about one hour north of Plattsburgh, New York. I’m 36, and my husband André and I were married in 2001, in a costumed, Renaissance wedding (there’s my weird fact for the day, LOL!). We have a sweet little two and a half year old boy named Liam. He is the reason that I started scrapbooking. I resisted the hobby for many years, because I knew it would be addicting. No surprise – now I’m firmly hooked!

I’ve been crafting in one form or another since I was big enough to hold a crayon. Sewing was my biggest obsession, and I go back and forth to that still, as the muses strike, but it’s kind of taken a backseat to the scrapbooking. And I’m OK with that. I mostly scrap 12×12, but I dabble in other formats. My style would best be described as ‘eclectic’ – some days I’m very clean and simple, other days – not so much. Some of my favorite manufacturers are Basic Grey, My Mind’s Eye and Scenic Route.

By day I’m an accountant at a fragrance company so scrapping satisfies the other side of my brain. And as you may have already realized, besides Scrapbooking – some of my other addictions are Starbucks, Sushi and Styx (classic rock). But not all at the same time – Ewwww!

You may choose any theme you wish.  We will choose a winner from all entries and you will win a prize from SBCH!  The winner chosen will then get to design an example from one of my sketches for one of the future blog sketch contests.  The deadline for the contest is Tuesday March 4th. A winner will then be chosen on Wednesday March 5th and I will post another sketch contest on Thursday March 6th.  Scrapbooker’s Club House will continue to hold this contest biweekly. We hope you will give it a try!

Design Team Call!!! April – July 31, 2008

Scrapbooker’s Club House is excited to announce our Design Team Call! We are looking for 4 energetic, talented designers who are excited about creating scrapbook pages and inspiring others. We need people who can participate daily on our message board creating new topics, issuing challenges and helping organize online crops. Because of postal time constraints, we are accepting Canadian and US applicants only.

We also encourage anyone who has never been on a Design Team to apply.

• DT Call Dates: Feb. 20- March 26th
• DT Term: April – July 31, 2008

We are looking for people who can:
1. be our eyes and ears in finding inspiration to share with our community and help it grow
2.those who can be creative in use of our kits and be able to promote Scrapbooker’s Club House on other sites.
3.People with great communication skills and who are Team players
4. People who work well with deadlines and under pressure

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING:
Submit 2 layouts, 1 card and 1 altered item to our Gallery in the April-July 2008 DT Call Submission folder. These do not have to be new but they do need to be your original work that represent your style and are fairly current.

Register and become a member of our message board. Introduce yourself and let us get to know you!

Our SBCH Spotlight – Design Team- Jennifer

I’ve kept scrapbooks in some form or another since I was a teenager
but around 2002 my mom took me to a scrapbooking class at a store and
that was the beginning to my obsession.  I started out scrapbooking
layouts but quickly moved in to card making and altering items.  Half
of the fun of being an obsessed paper crafter is the shopping.  I’m
always on the lookout for the “latest and greatest” and I have the
stash to prove it!I enjoy trying new techniques in my paper crafting.   Some of my
favourite techniques:  inking, sewing, and stamping.I’m not really into the whole “celebrity scrapbooker” thing:  there
are just so many talented “regular” scrapbookers to draw inspiration
from, including all the talented ladies at SBCH.I get most of my inspiration on line looking at galleries and or
blogs.  I love to use sketches as a starting point for my designs and
even recently started making my own sketches.

My scrapbooking goals for the next year include:  learning how to use
my dSLR in manual mode and taking better photos, learning more
features of photoshop for improving the quality of my photos and to
continue to have my cards and or layouts published.
